Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar has met with US Ambassador of the United States of America to Trinidad and Tobago, Joseph Mondello.
A statement by the Office of the Leader of the Opposition says that several matters of national importance were discussed during the meeting, which took place at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, Charles Street, Port of Spain.
The statement did not go into any further details.
With 5 months to go to CARIFESTA XIV, 19 countries have confirmed their attendance at this premier festival of the arts from August 16th-25th, 2019 in Trinidad and Tobago.
Sixteen Caribbean member and associate member states have responded to the official invitation to participate in the festival which was issued via a CARICOM SAVINGRAM on December 7, 2018.

In a statement issued Friday, the Office of the Prime Minister condemned the attack.

An American Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 will depart this country tomorrow morning, despite an order banning its operation our airspace.
The approval was granted by the Civil Aviation Authority based on a request by the airline.
Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority Francis Regis says this is a normal procedure even in the face of an airspace restriction.
He says the order does not allow for commercial flights but there is room for ferry flights.
Effective immediately, persons seeking to renew their United States visas will no longer be required to go through an interview process, as long as they do not wait a full year to do so.

The ambassador said the new policy would require renewed visa applicants to simply send in the required documents for processing.
Two American Airlines flights out of Trinidad and Tobago this morning and one incoming flight have been cancelled, as a result of the grounding of the American Airline's Max 8 aircraft.
This follows the cancellation of two flights on Wednesday as well.
American Airlines' flight AA 2282 was due to fly out of Piarco bound for Miami at 6.32 am, but that flight was cancelled by the airline.
The airline also cancelled flight AA 10.30 which was due to leave Piarco at 1.32 pm today for Miami.
US Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Joseph Mondello, will today announce a new visa policy.
This is according to the US Embassy, in a short statement inviting the media to cover the announcement at 11.30 am.
The announcement will be made at the Buccoo Integrated Facility, Buccoo, Tobago.
The Embassy did not give any details on the new policy but says that the ambassador will make a brief statement.

EU finance ministers have updated the EU list of non-co-operative tax jurisdictions, and Trinidad and Tobago remains on it.
Over the course of last year, the Commission assessed 92 countries based on three criteria: tax transparency, good governance and real economic activity, as well as one indicator, the existence of a zero corporate tax rate.
60 countries took action on the Commission’s concerns and over 100 harmful regimes were eliminated. The list has also had a positive influence on internationally agreed tax good governance standards.
