Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has come out in support of Nafisah Nakhid and is calling on the board of the Lakshmi Girls' College to reconsider its position.
Persad-Bissessar says this is a matter of natural justice, equality and fairness.
Persad-Bissessar issued the following statement on Wednesday:
"While I agree that a dress code is appropriate at schools, the reality is a hijab cannot be classed in the same category as hats, capes, sleeveless dress or see-through mini-skirts.
“Enough is enough; time for tough action on crime.”
These were the words of Leader of the Opposition Kamla Persad-Bissessar as she delivered a tribute to Christopher Mohammed, who was found murdered in St James on Friday.
Christopher, 28, worked as a sous chef aboard an oil rig and was a part-time Uber driver.
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is calling on the prime minister to call elections now, saying if he has so much confidence in his ministers he should test it at the polls.
She says the prime minister rewarded Minister Darryl Smith instead of firing him, given the allegations surrounding him.
Persad-Bissesar issued the following statement today:
"Prime Minister Keith Rowley should pick up his pack of jokers and go.
Even as Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley waits on a report on the circumstances that led to T&T’s representative at the Organisation of American States (OAS), Ambassador Anthony Phillip-Spencer to vote against Dominica’s bid to waive its OAS contributions for 2018 and 2019, a copy of a memorandum, obtained by the T&T Guardian, surfaced yesterday stating that T&T’s Mission in Washington had suggested to the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs in T&T, that this country should support Dominica’s bid.
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is issuing a clarion call to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to man up to his responsibilities as prime minister and stop the blame game.
She says playing politics will not bring any comfort and security to terrified citizens.
"It is sickening that the prime minister would use the heinous and gruesome murders of innocent 15-year-old schoolboy Joshua Andrews and taxi driver Devon Hernandez to try to score cheap political points," Persad-Bissessar said.
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has paid tribute to former president George Maxwell Richards who passed on Monday night.
Persad-Bissessar called him a statesman and true son of the soil.
The following is a statement by the Opposition Leader;
"I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of this country’s fourth President, Professor George Maxwell Richards, TC, CM.
I remember him as honourable, patriotic and noble, and he served Trinidad and Tobago with distinction in his role as Head of State.
