Kamla Persad-Bissessar sues Sunshine Newspaper over article

Former Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is suing the Sunshine Newspaper for an article in this week's edition entitled, "Kamla facing extradition to the US! - For US$20 Million in Japanese Bank".

Attorney Wayner Sturge has sent a pre-action protocol letter to the newspaper and to reporter Azad Ali, claiming that the article defamed the former prime minister.

Opposition Leader's tribute to Kamaluddin Mohammed

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has expressed deep sadness at the passing of former Government Minister, Kamaluddin Mohammed.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar issued this statement today:

"I was deeply saddened on Tuesday night to learn of the death of Mr. Kamaluddin Mohammed.

He was a great patriot who personified service. He was also leading member of the Islamic community and dedicated his life to serving his community and our nation both as a senior cabinet minister and as an ordinary citizen.

Kamla Persad-Bissessar says Govt has no answer to violence against women

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is accusing the Government of having no plan to eliminate violence against women. 

Today marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against women. 

Persad-Bissessar said the PNM has no plan to tackle this issue.

She said in an attempt to score political points the PNM removed several ministries including the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Child Development. Mrs Persad-Bissessar said only when pressured by the

PCA finds evidence of misconduct by police handling case of weed at former PM's house

The Police Complaints Authority has found evidence of serious police misconduct with regard to the Police Service’s handling of the alleged discovery of marijuana, at the private residence of the former prime minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

In a statement issued today, the PCA says it has completed a comprehensive investigation into the matter and has forwarded its investigative file together with a recommendation to the Director of Public Prosecutions to prosecute specified persons for the offence of misbehavior in public office on account of willful neglect of duty. 

Opposition Leader challenges PM on treatment of TT national in France

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is challenging the Prime Minister over what she sees as the poor treatment of a T&T national in France.

The former Prime Minister issued a statement questioning why Dr Kris Rampersad was prevented from participating in an international conference and why she was not checked upon, following the terrorist attacks.

Opposition Leader questions lack of further Parliamentary sittings; alleges PM ducking questions

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is questioning the lack of further Parliamentary sittings for this month, saying it appears as though the Prime Minister is attempting to avoid answering questions.
