Man held with cocaine at Maracas Bay home

One man was arrested and a revolver and a quantity of illegal drugs were discovered, by officers of the Maracas Bay Police Station, during an anti-crime exercise in the area, over the weekend, a police statement said.

The exercise, which was spearheaded by ASP Michael Sooker and included members of the Coastal Patrol Unit, was conducted between 10:00am and 5:00pm, on Saturday 11th November, 2017.

The officers first executed a search warrant at the Old Bay Road, Maracas Bay, home of a 26-year-old man.

The chaos you've been experiencing trying to find a place to park at Maracas Beach recently might soon be over.

The Ministry of Tourism says it is constructing temporary parking facilities near the fishing complex.

It issued the following statement today:

"As a result of the on-going upgrade works at Maracas Beach, the main car parking facility is no longer available to the public.

Water disruption in Maracas Bay on Friday

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising customers served by the Tyrico Water Treatment Plant that there will be an interruption in their water supply on Friday 1st September 2017, between the hours of 9 am and 4 p.m.

WASA says in a statement issued today that this has become necessary, in order to facilitate the relocation of pipeline infrastructure, as part of the Maracas Bay Beach Facility Improvement Project.

It said that this job was previously advertised to be performed on Monday 28th August 2017, but had to be rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances.

56-year-old man drowns at Maracas Bay

A 56-year-old man has drowned at Maracas Beach and two other people who were also caught in the current were rescued by the Coast Guard and lifeguards.

He has been identified as Primchan Ramlal.

A statement by the Coast Guard says that on Sunday 2nd July 2017 at approximately 7:10 pm, the Coast Guard received a report from a coast guard officer, Able Seaman Henry, who was on Maracas beach at the time, that there were three persons in some difficulty in the water.

Two were males and one was female.  

Teenager among four charged with Maracas Bay murder

Three men and a 17-year-old boy have been charged with the murder of Kimberly Lewis of Maracas Bay and the attempted murder of her husband Jonathan Garcia.

They have been identified as Alfonso Boissierre, Jevon Ding Chong, Shane Seethahal and Travis Fourniellier.

The Director of Prosecutions gave instructions for the charges to be laid.

The four were held in connection with the attack on the two victims on May 22nd in Maracas.

Lewis died from chop wounds while Garcia was warded after being chopped about the body during the attack.

Ministry announces start of Maracas Bay improvement work

The Ministry of Works and Transport says work will start shortly on the Maracas Beach Facilities Improvement Project – Package I, along the North Coast Road, Maracas Bay.

The proposed works entail the widening of the existing North Coast Road, the introduction of a roundabout, upgrade of the carpark and drainage improvement works within the limits of the Maracas Beach Facility.

The construction period will be between May, 2017 to September, 2017.
