Mystery oil spill at Waterfront

The Coast Guard is cur­rent­ly as­sist­ing the En­vi­ron­men­tal Man­age­ment Agency (EMA) in in­ves­ti­gat­ing the source of an oil spill at the Wa­ter­front Com­plex on Tues­day.

Passers­by re­port­ed a thick black coat­ing cov­er­ing the nor­mal­ly teal wa­ters of the Wa­ter­front near the area where the wa­ter taxis would nor­mal­ly berth.

The oil slick clung against the walls of the dock, stretch­ing past where the Cabo Star is usu­al­ly docked, with on­ly a few streams drift­ing out to­wards the Caribbean Sea.

Heritage Petroleum: Flow line severed, 5 barrels spilled, area cleaned

The Heritage Petroleum Company Limited is investigating an act of sabotage on one of the company's lines in Grande Riviere.

According to the company, a 2.7-inch flow line was visibly severed resulting in the spillage of approximately five barrels of oil. The line has since been repaired and approximately 80 per cent of the spill has been collected and removed from the site. 

Heritage Petroleum says there has been no damage to the environment.

EMA investigates oil spill in Carenage

The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) is investigating an oil spill at the Carenage Jetty, near the Carenage fishing facilities. 

The presence of an oily substance and contamination of the coastline on the shoreline and in the nearshore area by the Carenage Fishing Centre, that is, the fishing depot under construction just after Haig Street, were observed on Tuesday. 

The EMA says it also conducted a shoreline impact assessment at Williams Bay near the Chaguaramas boardwalk at 6:50 pm, however, there was no evidence of oil on the shoreline or in the water.

Petrotrin investigates another oil spill

Petrotrin says its Operations, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Security personnel are currently engaged in recovery and cleanup efforts at the site of an oil spill in the Catshill Field.

A statement by the company says that following receipt of reports of the incident on Monday, the company activated its Oil Spill Response System and Incident Command Team and has provided the necessary
resources to effectively manage this incident.

Gov't initiates criminal & civil proceedings in relation to Chaguaramas oil spill

Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Franklin Khan says the Government is taking both civil and criminal legal action against the owners of a vessel responsible for an oil spill in Chaguaramas in October last year.

The spill cost the State $2 million in clean-up operations.

Minister Khan told the Senate that on Sunday 15th October, 2017, the ministry received a report of the spill near the Carera Island in Chaguaramas.

Petrotrin: Oil spill contained

Petrotrin is assuring the population that oil spill that was reported at the Trinmar Soldado North Field operations has been contained.

In a statement issued last night, the state oil company stated that the company’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and operations personnel immediately responded to report.

It says the source of the leak was identified, the line isolated and by 10:30 a.m.

There were no further leaks.
