Repair works will soon begin on homes in Oropune Gardens following floods in October.
The homes are being refurbished by the Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Plans have been approved for work to begin next week.
The Ministry of Education is assuring parents, teachers and students that major electrical and infrastructural repairs will be conducted at the La Romaine Secondary School during the July – August vacation period, in time for the reopening of the new school term in September, 2018.
Among the electrical upgrades are the installation of electrical outlets and wiring in several school blocks, such as the administrative building, multipurpose hall, library, washrooms and classrooms. The termite infestation problem in the pre-fabricated buildings will also be addressed.
The Ministry of Education has issued a statement seeking to assure parents of students attending the San Juan Boys’ & Girls’ Primary Schools that their concerns are being addressed and repairs will start early next week.
The ministry says approval has been granted for the release of funds for major repairs to the shed at 60 Second Street, San Juan where students and teachers await transport to their temporary location at Eastern Main Road, Tunapuna.
The management of Trinidad and Tobago Inter-island Transportation Company Limited (TTIT) is advising that repairs to the T&T Express are still on-going.
A statement from the TTIT says the technicians are working assiduously to complete the repairs following which all works will be supervised and certified by DNV surveyors.
It notes that a further update will be provided by 10.00 am on Saturday 03rd February, 2018 and the travelling public will be advised on the expected resumption to service of the T&T Express.
The Ministry of Education says contractors are working to repair more than 40 schools over the Christmas vacation.
In a statement issued by the Ministry today, Education Minister Anthony Garcia says the early start to the “December Vacation Repairs Programme” is designed to ensure that all schools are in a state of readiness for reopening of the new term on Monday 8th January, 2018.
He expressed optimism that all repairs will be completed on time and students and teachers will not be inconvenienced in any way.
