Education Ministry explains why San Fernando panyard was asked to move

The Ministry of Education says the owner of the Old Tech Steel Orchestra was asked by the San Fernando West Secondary School to find alternative accommodation for their pans and other equipment because of severe space constraints on the compound.

Republic Bank: Staff wages are among best in the country

Republic Bank is defending its position with regards to claims made by the Banking, Insurance and General Workers Trade Union that the bank is not offering descent wages to the workers.

The bank issued a statement on Thursday stating, among other things, that wages given to staff are among the best in the country.

The following is the bank's statement:

"Republic Bank Limited is currently in negotiations with the Banking Insurance and General Workers Union (BIGWU) for a new collective agreement related to its clerical staff.

Imbert: Claims that Galleons Passage will be delayed until May are 'speculative'

Finance Minister Colm Imbert says claims that the arrival of the Galleons Passage vessel will be delayed by a month are an exaggeration.

The minister was responding to information posted by Sea Transport in China.

The US$17.38 million vessel is currently docked in Honolulu.

It is expected to journey to Panama and then to Cuba to be outfitted with seats before traveling to Trinidad.

The final sailing is expected to take around 10 days which would means the vessel could arrive in the first week of May.
