Public Relations Officer of the United National Congress, Senator Anita Haynes says the government must move to stop the use of Boeing Max 8s in T&T's airspace.
“Instead of taking time to blast a newspaper reporter for an article on concerns regarding Boeing 737 Max 8, the Finance Minister, who is the line Minister for Caribbean Airlines, should take immediate action to suspend the intended lease of 12 of these aircraft,” Haynes said in a statement.
A United National Congress (UNC) member has resurrected the three-year-old election petition and is now seeking to sue Chief Justice Ivor Archie for his role in the determination which cost him the seat back in 2015.
In a pre-action protocol letter yesterday, UNC senator and attorney Gerald Ramdeen represented Dr Shevanand Gopeesingh, who was the UNC candidate for San Fernando West and went up against Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi.
The Opposition UNC immediately received 104 nominations for Local Government and general election areas when the party opened nominations on Monday.
UNC PRO Anita Haynes confirmed this following first-day activities on Monday. The party opened nominations for all Local Government corporation seats and for general election seats which the UNC doesn’t hold and which are currently held by the PNM.
Haynes said 84 people collected forms for Local Government seats and 20 for general election seat.

"We thank the hundreds of people who came out on the first day to pick up nomination papers. On day one of nominations we have had 84 persons picking up nomination forms for Local Government Elections and 20 persons for General Elections," the UNC said in a statement.
Warning that valuable oil assets could be sold to friends and financiers of the PNM, UNC chairman David Lee has called for the operationalisation of the procurement legislation be passed in Parliament under the PNM.
Speaking at the UNC’s General Assembly held in Couva on Sunday, Lee lambasted the Government for not operationalising the procurement legislation saying out of 90 bills, it was one of the few bills passed in Parliament.
Chaguanas West MP Ganga Singh will move a motion at the UNC's National Assembly on Sunday, calling on the political leader to engage with other political parties and units, with an aim towards forming a coalition to contest the 2019 Local Government Election and the 2020 General Election.
Singh has submitted the motion called "Creating a Unified Political Platform" to the National Executive for debate.
It has been seconded by San Juan/Barataria MP Dr Fuad Khan.
