1 bandit killed and another injured, after robbing prison officers

A prison officer shot after two bandits as they were escaping in his colleague’s vehicle in Claxton Bay last night, killing one and injuring another.

A prison officer shot after two bandits as they were escaping in his colleague’s vehicle in Claxton Bay last night, killing one and injuring another.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm at the carpark of Annie’s Roti Shop at a Cedar Hill Road, Forres Park, Claxton Bay.

The report stated that a prison officer was standing in the carpark speaking to his female colleague who was seated in her silver Kia Rio.  Both officers are attached to the Golden Grove Prison.

The prison officers were accosted by two men who pointed a gun at them and announced a holdup.  They robbed the male prison officer of cash and a cell phone while they robbed the other officer of her cellphone, cash and vehicle.

As the suspects were escaping in his colleague’s vehicle, the male officer drew his licensed firearm and shot after them.  The vehicle crashed a short distance away.  One suspect died while the other suspect sustained injuries and was taken for medical attention. 

Visiting the scene were Insp Santana, Inspector Phillip, Sgt Ramlogan and officers of St Margaret’s Police Station and the Southern Division, as well as the Prisons Service.  The district medical officer viewed the body and ordered its removal.

Investigations are continuing.
