14 artistes compete for the two biggest titles in Chutney Soca

Thirteen artistes will be competing against GI Beharry for the title of Chutney Soca Monarch, while five women also will be competing for the Queen of Chutney Soca title which Nisha Ramsook will be defending on Saturday night at SAPA, says Southex, organisers of the Chutney Soca Monarch competition.

Southex reports that the line-up is one competitor short, however, as Neeshan ‘Hitman’ Prabhoo is awaiting the results of a Covid test and has opted out of the competition as a precaution.

“We wish him a speedy recovery should he test positive,” Southex says in a news release.

Southex has confirmed that the Chutney Soca Monarch event will be held in front of a limited ‘live’ audience will be broadcast on the State television station TTT.  It also will be available to an international audience via the ‘Southex Live Events’ YouTube page.

“The Grand Final will feature a special opening performance by the ‘World’s Greatest Chutney Soca Artiste’ Ravi B and his full band Karma featuring Nisha B and Abbyshi. There will also be an opening dance by the Khalnayak Dance Academy,” Southex noted.

“The Final will be hosted by ‘Nah’ News anchor, Kenneth Supersad and Big Rich D Pungalunks. All artistes will be backed up by Kishore ‘Wizzy’ Ramdath and Avatar the Band,” the competition organiser said.

One interesting feature is that the event will be judged by a panel of judges and include a text voting element, powered by BMobile, which will account for 30 per cent of a contestant’s overall score.
