16 more die from COVID

The Ministry of Health has reported the deaths of another 16 people from COVID-19, taking the overall total to 3,224.

In its latest update yesterday, the ministry said the recent fatalities were nine elderly males, three elderly females, two middle-aged males and two middle-aged females.

It said some of the patients had varying comorbidities, including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease, asthma and a history of strokes. It added, however, that five of the cases had no known medical conditions.

The ministry also confirmed that there were 648 new COVID-19 cases from samples collected between January 10 and 17. This means 102,024 people have contracted the disease since March 12, 2020.

It also reported that the total active cases were now 16,502. The majority of these patients, 15,257, were in home self-isolation. There were 467 in hospital while 130 were in step-down/transitional facilities.

As of yesterday, the ministry also reported that 680,033 people had been fully vaccinated while 100,754 had received a booster dose.
