Two men were granted bail after appearing before a Siparia Magistrate yesterday charged with sexually assaulting two minors. They were both ordered to stay 500 feet away from the girls. Details following this press release from the TTPS.

Two men, ages 46 and 72, were granted bail on Monday after appearing before a Siparia Magistrate charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old and 16-year-old girl.

In the first matter, the 46-year-old accused, who resides in Santa Flora, and who was charged with five counts of sexual penetration of a 14-year-old girl on September 9th, pleaded not guilty and was ordered to stay 500 feet away from the child.

He was also instructed to stay away from the Santa Flora community as part of his bail conditions which were set at $175,000 with a surety.

The man will reappear before the court on October 11th, 2021.

He was charged by WPC Mc Gregor of the South-Western Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) following a police report in January 2020 in which detectives were told that sometime between December 2018 and January 2020, a male relative of a 14-year-old girl allegedly had sexual intercourse her.

The investigation ended with the suspect, the girl’s uncle, being arrested and subsequently charged with five counts of sexual penetration of a child.

In the second matter, a 72-year-old man, also of Santa Flora, pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of sexual penetration of a 16-year-old girl, and was also ordered to stay 500 feet away from her.

He was given the order as part of his bail conditions which were set at $230,000 with a surety.

He was arrested on September 11th by WPC Myers of the South-Western Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) at the end of an investigation into a police report which detailed a series of alleged sexual abuse of a child.

In February 2021, CPU officers were alerted to the alleged incidents of sexual abuse by the relatives of a 16-year-old girl who told police that their niece was subjected to a series of sexual assaults by a man known to their family.

Throughout the course of the investigation, police discovered that while the child was staying at the home of a family friend, a man allegedly had sexual intercourse with her. The incidents are said to have occurred on February 2nd, 3rd and 4th of this year.

The girl subsequently told her relatives about the incidents who later reported the matters to the CPU.

The suspect was later arrested and charged with 14 counts of sexual penetration of a child.

Both matters were heard by Magistrate Aden Stroude.
