2nd triple murder solved in 10 days, as Laventille man charged

A Laventille man is expected to appear in a virtual hearing before a Port of Spain Magistrate today, charged with three counts of murder. His arrest marks the second triple murder to be solved in 10 days, and has led the Acting Commissioner of Police to commend the officers involved in the case for their swift action.

An official statement from the Police Service says RON ANTHONY GRANT, 34, of Picton Road, was also charged with four counts of attempted murder, and possession of firearm and ammunition to endanger life.  The charges were laid following advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Tricia Hudlin-Cooper, on Wednesday 22nd December 2021.

According to reports, Keston Bailey, 31, of Belmont and Shevon Charles and Joshua Francis, both 17, of East Dry River, Port of Spain, were in the company of other persons at Despers Drive, Laventille, around 11:30 am, on Monday 29th November 2021, when they were approached by armed assailants who alighted from a vehicle.

The assailants fired several shots at the group before escaping.

Bailey died at the scene, while Francis and Charles were taken to hospital for treatment, where they subsequently died. Other persons sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and were also taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigations were supervised by Inspectors Lynch and Jones, and Legal Officer Inspector Mongroo of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region One, with the assistance of officers attached to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Fort Chacon Base.

The accused was arrested by IATF officers on Wednesday 15th December 2021, in connection with the incident and subsequently charged by Sgt. Seecharan, of HBI Region One, on Wednesday 22nd December 2021.

CoP (Ag.) Mc Donald Jacob commended the HBI for their diligence and perseverance in pursuing this investigation, as well as the other previously solved triple murder.

The acting top cop said their efforts have delivered results and urged them to continue doing their hard work.
