Three Venezuelan women are among eight people who were arrested yesterday, for firearm possession.
A release from the Police Service states that Central Division police officers who were on mobile patrol on Tuesday afternoon, discovered a black metal object resembling a firearm in a vehicle they stopped and searched.
According to the TTPS, officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Freeport Police Station received information regarding a suspicious vehicle, which led them to Nelson Road, Freeport, around 2:45 pm.
The officers stopped a white Nissan AD wagon with eight occupants. The vehicle was searched and a firearm, which appeared to be a homemade shotgun, allegedly was found.
Police arrested the 42-year-old driver (a Carapichaima resident), along with four male occupants and the three female Venezuelan nationals. They all were taken to the Freeport Police Station.
Investigations are ongoing.
