A 20-year-old Coast Guard member was yesterday granted $400,000 bail after being charged with manslaughter over the death of a colleague.
Takeem Alexander was granted bail after he appeared before Magistrate Adia Mohammed via video link from the Besson Street Police Station, yesterday afternoon.
Alexander was eventually remanded into custody as his relatives were unable to secure his bail, up to late yesterday evening.
Alexander is accused of causing the death of Ordinary Seaman Gyasi Richardson, last Tuesday.
According to reports, Richardson was on aboard the TTS Speyside as it was patrolling near Chacachacare Island, when he was shot in his head as a firearm allegedly accidentally discharged.
Richardson was taken to the St James Medical Facility but succumbed to his injury shortly after being admitted.
