Quick action by police officers assigned to the Eastern Division, Sangre Grande led to the arrest of five people and the recovery of stolen items valued at over $100,000 from Sangre Grande Indoor Sporting Facility located at Ojoe Road.
According to police, one female and an Indian national are among the five arrested.
Two of those arrested are from the Sangre Grande area, while the other three are from Palmiste, Felicity and Cunupia respectively.
Police said while the Prime Minister was holding a news conference to speak about the newly implemented State of Emergency on Saturday afternoon, the five were busy removing the items from the Indoor Sporting Complex. Among the items officers recovered in a truck were 12 water heaters, fire extinguishers and electrical items valued at over $100,000.
