Six people are homeless following a fire at Cacandee Road, Felicity, Chaguanas, yesterday.

Routie Maharaj-Singh, 36, one of the victims, said she, her husband, two primary school children ages 12 and 11, her mother-in-law Neela Singh, 68, and 41-year-old sister-in-law have nowhere to stay. She said it was after 10 am on Wednesday that the blaze started on the second floor of the house and quickly engulfed the structure.

The Fire Service told Guardian Media that investigations into what caused the blaze are being carried out.

Maharaj-Singh and relatives took refuge at the house of a neighbour where she sat crying and being consoled by her two children.

Mahara-Singh said everything was lost in the fire including clothes, food and the internet devices.

Neela Singh lost all her medication in the blaze.

Dinesh Rambally, the Chaguanas West MP, told Guardian Media that he started working immediately with the National Commission for Self Help to have some level of relief brought to the family.

Rambally said he has reached out to the Felicity SDMS Primary School where the children attend and communicated with the PTA to ensure that the children have access to internet devices so their education would not be affected.

Rambally said his office was also arranging to get a copy of the prescription of the elderly lady so medicine can be purchased for her.
