6 Venezuelans, 1 Trinidadian held in Penal

Six Venezuelans whom police suspect entered the country illegally, and one Trinidadian man, were detained yesterday in Penal during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the South Western Division.

Six Venezuelans whom police suspect entered the country illegally, and one Trinidadian man, were detained yesterday in Penal during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the South Western Division.

According to official police reports, police officers received information which led them to Bunsee Trace Extension, Penal, where they intercepted a gold-coloured Nissan Prairie.

The driver, a 36-year-old Trinidadian from Balmain, Couva, was detained. The vehicle’s occupants, two female and four male Venezuelans ranging in age from 18 to 39 years, also were detained.

It is believed that they entered the country illegally.

They were medically examined at the Siparia Health Facility and are being held pending further enquiries.

The exercise, which was conducted between the hours of 9 pm on Friday and 1 am this morning, was coordinated by Snr Supt Neil Brandon-John, Supt Singh, Insp Simon, supervised by Sgt Crawford and included members of the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF).

Investigations are ongoing.
