The seven people arrested on Mayaro beach on Monday were unaware that they were breaching the COVID-19 Regulations by just being at the beach.

Sharlene Ganesh, 36, Shivanna Sinanan, 20, Aaliah Herbert, 18, Adrian Medrano, 39, Evelyn Desantos, 41, and Arthur Phillips, 49, appeared virtually before Mayaro Magistrate Nizan Khan yesterday.

They were arrested at Plaisance Beach around 4.30 pm by officers of the Eastern Division who were conducting checks in coastline communities.

They were charged by WPC Knight for breaching the Public Health Ordinance and subsequently granted own bail in the sum of $500.

They told the magistrate that they thought that they would only get into trouble if they went into the water.

Sinanan and Herbert were reprimanded and discharged while the others were placed on a $30,000 bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for a year.
