8 new COVID-19 positive cases, 5 are returnees

The latest update from the Ministry of Health is confirming 8 new positive cases of COVID-19, with 5 of those patients being recently repatriated persons. These new cases bring the total number of active cases in the country to 324 patients.

The latest update from the Ministry of Health is confirming 8 new positive cases of COVID-19, with 5 of those patients being recently repatriated persons.  These new cases bring the total number of active cases in the country to 324 patients.

However, the Ministry points out that the number of positive cases reported reflects the samples taken during the period Saturday 2nd to Monday 4th January 2021.

In its update for today, Tuesday 5 January 2021, the Ministry also is reporting no new deaths from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, with the national toll holding at 127 persons.

The Health Ministry also notes in its update:

● 25 persons are still hospitalised for COVID-19; up from 23 patients on Monday.

● 228 persons are in home self-isolation; down from 234 patients on Monday.  17 of these patients are in the care of the prison system.

● 220 persons are in State quarantine facilities; up from 209 patients on Monday.

● 63 patients are still recovering in step/down facilities; down from 66 patients on Monday.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO COVID-19 (NOVEL CORONAVIRUS) UPDATE #595

As part of the national drive to safeguard the health of the Trinidad and Tobago population in the face of the global COVID-19 outbreak, the Ministry of Health continues to provide up-to-date information on the country’s status in this regard.

The following is a clinical update as at 4 pm on Wednesday 28th October 2020. The population is reminded to rely solely on information from official sources, such as the Ministry of Health.

Members of the public are reminded that they must adhere to the ‘New Normal’ recommendations and take the following personal health measures to protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19:

●   Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when you go out in public

●   Keep your distance from others (6 feet)

●   Stay home if you are ill

●   Clean then sanitise surfaces (e.g. tabletops, door knobs and cell phones)

●   Wash your hands often with soap and waters or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser

●   Cough into a tissue or into the cook of your elbow

●   Avoid touching your face

If you or a loved one develops symptoms of COVID-19, please call the hotline 877-WELL or 800-WELL (9355) for further guidance.

If the person is severely ill, call the 811 (emergency hotline) or call ahead to the Accident and Emergency Department of your nearest hospital for help and go in immediately.
