8 new positive COVID-19 cases, no new deaths recorded

The latest update from the Ministry of Health is confirming 8 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 360 patients.

The latest update from the Ministry of Health is confirming 8 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 360 patients.

In addition, this latest statistic marks a further reduction in the number of active cases nationally, as the figure for yesterday (Thursday) stood at 373 patients.

However, these eight new cases reflect samples taken between Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st December 2020, and not the last 24 hours. 

In its update for today, Friday 1 January 2021, the Ministry also is reporting no new deaths from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, with the national toll holding at 127 persons. 

Also, four more patients have been discharged from public health facilities; and 17 patients, designated as “community cases”, have recovered from COVID-19.

The Health Ministry also notes in its update:

● 25 persons are still hospitalised for COVID-19; down from 28 patients on Thursday.

● 261 persons are in home self-isolation; down from 262 patients on Thursday.

● 216 persons are in State quarantine facilities; down from 220 patients on Thursday. 17 of these patients are in the care of the prison system.

● 66 patients are still recovering in step/down facilities; up from 65 patients on Thursday.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO COVID-19 (NOVEL CORONAVIRUS) UPDATE #591

As part of the national drive to safeguard the health of the Trinidad and Tobago population in the face of the global COVID-19 outbreak, the Ministry of Health continues to provide up-to-date information on the country’s status in this regard.

The following is a clinical update as at 4 pm on Friday 1st January 2021. The population is reminded to rely solely on information from official sources, such as the Ministry of Health.

Members of the public are reminded that they must adhere to the ‘New Normal’ recommendations and take the following personal health measures to protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19:

●   Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when you go out in public

●   Keep your distance from others (6 feet)

●   Stay home if you are ill

●   Clean then sanitise surfaces (e.g. tabletops, door knobs and cell phones)

●   Wash your hands often with soap and waters or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser

●   Cough into a tissue or into the cook of your elbow

●   Avoid touching your face

If you or a loved one develops symptoms of COVID-19, please call the hotline 877-WELL or 800-WELL (9355) for further guidance.

If the person is severely ill, call the 811 (emergency hotline) or call ahead to the Accident and Emergency Department of your nearest hospital for help and go in immediately.
