9 more lives lost to COVID-19, but fewer new positive cases today

Nine more people have died from COVID-19, pushing up the national death toll to 1,311 lives lost, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health.

And in its update for today, Thursday 2nd September 2021, the Ministry also reports that 104 people have tested positive for the disease, based on samples taken between August 29th and September 1st. 

The Ministry says these new positive cases mean that at this time, there are 4,050 active cases of COVID-19 in the country, a drop from yesterday’s figures of 110 new cases and 4,223 active cases.

The total number of patients recovering from COVID-19 also has gone up—from 39,432 people on September 1st, to 39,700 people today, September 2nd.

The national vaccination programme continues apace, with a total of 404,221 persons having completed a vaccination regime (namely, both doses of a two-dose regime and one dose of a single-dose regime).  Those who are partially vaccinated—or who have received one dose of a two-dose regime—now stand at 513,448.

The Health Ministry also notes in its update:

● 264 persons are still hospitalised for COVID-19; down from 275 patients on Wednesday.

● 3,588 persons are in home self-isolation; down from 3,739 patients on Wednesday.

● 134 persons are in State quarantine facilities; up from 130 patients on Wednesday.

● 94 patients are still recovering in step/down facilities; down from 99 patients on Wednesday.
