With the United Nations Food Organisation projecting a twenty two percent increase in food prices, there are calls for the government to immediately develop a CARICOM food security plan. The call was made by agricultural economist Omardath Maharaj, and the political leader of the movement for social justice, David Abdulah. Both men agreed that dependency on foreign wheat and flour imports must be weaned off now before a food crisis hits. Here’s senior reporter Radhica De Silva with more.
