Airports Authority confirms two injured in emergency landing at Piarco

Two people are now receiving medical attention following an incident at the Piarco International Airport today, which saw a training aircraft made an emergency landing.

According to an official statement from the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT), there were no casualties because of the incident which involved a light aircraft and occurred at the Piarco International Airport, at 9:48 am today, Tuesday 19th October 2021.

The Airports Authority release explains:

“The flight training aircraft, registration number 9YTJU, experienced difficulty on approach for landing at runway 10, and made an emergency landing just north-west of the Piarco International Airport.”

“The Trinidad and Tobago Fire service, Global Medical Response of Trinidad and Tobago (GMRTT), the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the Authority immediately activated emergency response and rescue procedures,” the release confirmed.

It added: “Two persons were retrieved from the aircraft, the instructor and a student pilot. They were transported to the Arima Medical Facility and are receiving medical attention.  We wish to advise the public that there were no casualties.”

The Authority says no flights have been impacted by the incident and assures that “operations continue as normal at the Piarco International Airport.”
