To date, 390 people have been charged for breaching the public health ordinance by not wearing their face masks in public.
This according to acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Wendell Williams.
In an interview on CNC3’s the Morning Brew, Williams said police officers are continuing to distribute face masks to those who have none, including homeless people but the law is also being enforced.
Williams said that while those who are ticketed for non-compliance have 14 days to pay the fine according to the law, the judiciary is not accepting payments until October 16.
He said those who have been charged so far will not be penalised for non-payment until after that date as there is no facility for the payment of the fine.
