South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) CEO Dr Brian Armour is dispelling reports that a gunman was seen running through the San Fernando General Hospital.Yesterday, the staff at the hospital reported seeing a man armed with a firearm running through Level 8 of the hospital, with some even advising their colleagues to stay away from the area. The information began circulating on social media, causing a panic, especially since three suspects in the kidnapping of Dr Rudradeva Sharma and the Dr Prem Naidoo and the accidental death of Dr Sharam, were warded at the hospital. However, Amour told Guardian Media that it was just a rumour and that based on his information, an armed police officer on his way to check a prisoner at the hospital may have spooked the staff.“Right about now, I am dealing with the information, but there is nothing factual about it. People are seeing relatives of suspects walking about and the police officers who were going to check prisoners who are at the hospital. The information about a gunman is inaccurate,” Amour said.Security was heightened at the hospital on Wednesday following news of Sharma and Naidoo’s attack, although the doctors were not kidnapped there. Amour added that the SWRHA is working closely with the Southern Division police and maintained that there was no risk.
