An autopsy conducted on the body of 32-year-old Venezuelan woman, Joann Diaz was inconclusive due to the state of decomposition. The autopsy was done on Tuesday at the Forensic Science Centre.

Investigators, however, said tissues and organ samples were kept by forensic officials for further testing including toxicology. However, police said the suspect allegedly confessed to strangling Diaz to death while she was at his home at #39 Santa Clara Road, Preysal.

He then dragged the body and threw it in a cesspit located on the premises. Police said Diaz was pregnant when she was killed. The suspect remains in police custody for further enquiries. Investigations are continuing.

According to a police report, last week Monday Diaz of Buen Intento, Princes Town was reported missing by her friends and relatives.

Diaz’s ex-boyfriend, 35, who was the last person to have seen her alive that said day was subsequently detained by police for questioning.

On Saturday morning, police said, the ex-boyfriend confessed to the murder where he told police they had an argument which escalated into a fight. The suspect confessed that he had beaten Diaz very badly and then strangled her to death.

Police say the suspect, after his confession, took police officers to his home where Diaz’s body was found buried among faeces in a cesspit on the compound.

The suspect remains in police custody for further enquiries.

Investigations are continuing.
