A bandit was shot dead by police officers during a police-involved shooting at Brazil Village, San Raphael on Thursday night.

Three of the bandit’s accomplices are said to have fled as police officers foiled their plans.

It is alleged that the four men, who were in a white Honda Civic went to the Cross Quality Supermarket at about 8 pm, where they announced a hold-up.

Police said when the officers responded to the report of the robbery and arrived on the scene the men got into the vehicle and sped off.

The officers attempted to intercept the car, however, the men, the police report said, opened fire on officers.

A volley of shots was exchanged between the lawmen and the suspects, which led to the men stopping the vehicle and running into

nearby bushes.

Police officers found one of the suspects still in the car but bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the Arima District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The vehicle was seized by officers and sent to the Forensic Science Centre (FSC) for forensic analysis. Inside the car officers claimed they recovered two firearms and a quantity of ammunition.

Those were also sent to the FSC for ballistic testing.

Police officers subsequently launched a manhunt in the area for the other three suspects but they were not found.

Investigators said the dead bandit is known to them only as “Son-Son” from Malabar. They described him as a known “pest.”

This is the fourth police shooting incident for the week.

Investigations are continuing.
