Police are probing several robberies, including one where thieves broke into a supermarket in Port-of-Spain and made off with several picnic hams.
According to a police report, around 3 am yesterday, officers received a report of a burglary at a store along the old St Joseph Road, Laventille.
Upon arrival, the officers were told that the building was secured on Saturday night.
However, the owners were contacted by residents nearby that the building was being broken into.
Checks revealed that quantities of chicken, fish, and picnic hams were stolen.
In an unrelated incident, an Aranguez businessman was robbed of $70,000 in cash on Friday.
The victim had just left a bank and was in his vehicle proceeding along Coronation Street, Aranguez, when he saw a white vehicle suddenly come to a stop in the road.
The businessman attempted to drive around the car, however, three armed masked men exited and announced a hold-up and robbed the businessman of the cash.
They then returned to their vehicle and drove off. In another incident, two men, ages 49 and 29, went to the Double Palm Guest House at Tumpuna Road South, Guanapo, Arima around 1 pm on Saturday to drop off staff salaries when they were approached by two armed men.
The victims were then relieved of over $19,000 in salaries and over $6,000 of the day’s sales.
The victims were also robbed of their own cellular phones and cash.
The men then escaped.
