A fatal road traffic accident on Wednesday claimed the life of one woman after she was knocked down whilst attempting to cross the road.
Esther George of Beetham Gardens was struck around 6.25 pm on November 30, as she ran across the Beetham Highway, Port-of-Spain.
The Nissan Wing-road which was driven by a man of Edward Street, Chaguanas – is owned by his wife who also lives at the same address.
The couple were said to be driving in the right lane, headed west – when upon reaching the Beetham Landfill, the deceased reportedly ran across the eastbound lanes and attempted to cross the westbound without stopping on the median and collided with the couple’s car.
The driver’s driving documents were checked by officers and found to be valid.
Although statements were recorded from him and other witnesses, the driver was warned of intended prosecution in accordance with Section 73 (1), Chapter 48:50 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act.
