The St Benedict’s RC Church in La Romaine also joined the nation in paying tribute to essential workers on the frontline of this COVID-19 battle.

At precisely 10 am, the chimes of the church bells resonated throughout the community while Monsignor Christian Pereira and a group of parishioners applauded as loudly as they could to show their love and support to frontline workers.

Proud to be part of the national applause initiative, Pereira said he chose to show their appreciation by ringing the bell because not only is it religious but the chimes would be heard near and far.

“I felt so happy, especially when I saw the show of solidarity in other parts of the country.”

While there are some who are negative and want to create mischief, Pereira said the support shown by so many citizens yesterday was a great blessing.

He saluted the sanitation workers, cleaners, health workers, grocery workers, pharmacy employee, the media, the defence force, police, fire service, clerical staff and public utility workers and all other persons providing an essential service at this time.
