Police officers at the Belmont Police Station escaped death and serious injuries when gunmen opened fire on the building during the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to a police report, at about 3:05 am, Cpl Caracillow and PC Phillips who were on duty at the time, were seated in the CID office located on the northwestern side of the building on the second floor when they heard three gunshots, along with a crashing sound from the window on the western side of the office.

Fearing for their lives, both officers took cover.  When they made checks a short while after, they discovered what appeared to be bullet holes in the window, as well as damage to the central door of the office.  The officers also found three projectiles on the ground of the office.

No one was injured.

ASP Ferguson, ASP Walker and Inspector Soodeen visited the scene, which was subsequently processed by the CSI team.

Investigations are ongoing.
