Police have charged a 35-year-old man with a series of offences arising out of a report of a domestic dispute in the district last Friday.
Romario Parris, of St Ann’s Road, Biche, was arrested on Monday and charged with arson, assault by beating, threats and throwing missiles following an enquiry.
A statement from the Police Service said the charges stemmed from a report of disturbance last Friday in which officers of the Mayaro Police Station responded.
When officers, led by PC Jaikaran, arrived at the scene, they saw a house on fire.
A report was made by the victim to officers on the scene following which the officers saw a man leaving the house.
The suspect was confronted, detained and taken into police custody pending further investigations.
Parris was expected to appear before a Mayaro magistrate yesterday to answer to the charges

A Maraval man has been charged with the murder of Phillip Cummings
A statement from the Police Service said Sheldon Hypolite, 35, a vendor, of Cameron Hill, Maraval, was charged with murder following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC on Monday.
Cummings, also known as “Shakey”, 57, of Never Dirty, Morvant, and another person were at the Central Market, Port-of-Spain, on August 6, when they got into an altercation with a vendor.
During the incident, they were beaten about their bodies with a piece of wood. Cummings died at the scene as a result of his injuries while the other person was taken to hospital for treatment.
A man was held shortly after by officers of the Port-of-Spain Division in connection with the incident.
Investigations were supervised by acting Senior Supt Joseph Chandool and Supt Suzette Martin, both of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region 1 while Hypolite was charged on Monday by Cpl Phillip, also of HBI Region 1.
Tobago man charged in burning death of woman
A Tobago man has been charged with the murder of Ellena Dial who, on June 17, succumbed to injuries she sustained in January 2020.
The Police Service said yesterday that Antonio Marcelle, aka “AJ”, 20, of Les Couteaux, Tobago, was charged with the offence following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC, on Monday.
Dial, 19, of Riseland Trace, Carnbee, was at Kilgwyn Beach, on January 27, 2020, when she was approached by assailants who threw a substance on her and set her on fire.
She was taken to Scarborough General Hospital for treatment for third degree burns to her face and upper torso.
She was then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for further treatment. She died on June 17.
Investigations into the incident resulted in the arrest Marcelle on August 12.
The charge was laid against Marcelle by St Sterling of the Crown Point Police Station on Monday.
