BIGWU donates digital learning devices to children in rural communities

The first delivery of digital learning devices acquired by the Banking Insurance and General Workers Union for the ‘Adopt a School’ initiative were presented to students of Mafeking Government Primary School and Mayaro Secondary School yesterday, Tuesday September 28, 2021.

The Banking Insurance and General Workers Union presented digital learning devices to students of the Mafeking Government Primary School and Mayaro Secondary School on Tuesday September 28th, 2021. BIGWU says that they expect to make contributions to at least two other schools in Toco and Matelot later this week and subsequently in Tobago next week. The first delivery of digital learning devices acquired by the Banking Insurance and General Workers Union for the ‘Adopt a School’ initiative were presented to students of Mafeking Government Primary School and Mayaro Secondary School yesterday, Tuesday September 28, 2021.

BIGWU’s General Secretary, Comrade Trevor Johnson delivered fifteen (15) learning devices which were received by students and Principal of Mafeking Government Primary School, Mr. Richard Roopnarine, at a small ceremony at the school.

In a separate small function, Vice Principal Ms. Joan Santlal and selected students of the Mayaro Secondary School were on hand to receive ten (10) devices as part of the donation from BIGWU ‘Adopt a School’ initiative. General Secretary, Trevor Johnson, in handing over the devices urged the students to utilise them for the benefit of their education reminding them that “an investment in education reaps the best rewards”.

The Union expects to make contributions to at least two other schools in Toco and Matelot later this week and subsequently in Tobago next week. The Union has referred to this ‘Adopt A School’ initiative as part of its social responsibility in these unprecedented times of a global pandemic.
