The body of a young woman has been discovered in a river at La Canoa, Santa Cruz, this morning.

Police are yet to confirm whether the dead female is 18-year-old Ashanti Riley, for whom a Missing Persons Alert is still active.

According to reports, at approximately 8:05 am, a party of officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit proceeded to a road in a forested part of the La Canoa area, based on information they had received.

There, they discovered the nude lifeless body of a female lying in a shallow water course, approximately 60 feet off the road way.

It is believed to be that of Ashanti Riley, the teen who went missing earlier this week. However, this is yet to be confirmed.

Ashanti Riley had left her Lloyd Street, Sunshine Avenue, San Juan home on Sunday to attend her Grandmother’s birthday party, but never arrived.

She was reported missing on the same day.

The teen’s mother Candice Riley told Guardian Media on Thursday that a suspect, the driver of the car Riley was last believed to be seen in, was in police custody.
