Boy, 13, shot in Morvant

A 13-year-old boy was shot and injured in Morvant on Monday.

Police said at about 5 pm the boy was playing in a neighbour’s yard at Sawmill Avenue when he heard a gunshot. He then felt a burning sensation in the leg and realised that he was shot.

As the boy cried out for help a masked man believed to be the gunman was seen running from an abandoned building in the area by residents.

The boy was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where he was treated and warded.

PC Hyde is continuing inquiries.

In an unrelated incident, a 35-year-old man was shot at while driving his vehicle along Sankar Street in Tunapuna.

The victim told police that at about 9.45 am on Monday he was driving his vehicle when another car approached him and while overtaking him its occupants opened fire on him and then sped off.

The victim stopped his vehicle and exited and saw that there were bullet holes in the front door and front windscreen.

The police, upon receiving a report, went to the scene and carried out an investigation during which they recovered five spent shells.

Police said three of the shells were identified as issued by the T&T Police Service while the other two were issued by the T&T Regiment.

Investigations are continuing.
