Breast-feeding women will now be able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
This is according to Director of Women’s Health, Dr Adesh Sirjusingh, who says the decision was made yesterday, to allow these women to receive the Sinopharm vaccine.
However, they will not be able to receive the Oxford-AstraZeneca.
Speaking at the health ministry’s news briefing today, Dr Sirjusingh revealed that almost 130 pregnant women have contracted COVID-19 since March 2021. This brings the total number of pregnant women to be infected to 170, since the pandemic began last year.
Dr Sirjusingh says 10 of these pregnant patients have ended up in the ICU.
