Cabo Star under quarantine at Trinidad port

Cabo Star passengers have been confined to ship until the health status of a foreign crew member has been determined…

The Cabo Star—the lone interisland cargo vessel—is at this time under quarantine at the Port of Spain Port after it sailed from Tobago at 11 pm on Wednesday.

One foreign crew member is allegedly suffering from flu-like symptoms.

Some passengers on board the vessel told Guardian Media when the vessel docked in Trinidad, this morning (March 19), an ambulance came on board and left with one foreign crew member.

According to the passenger, the captain told passengers they cannot leave the vessel, at the moment, and will know their fate by 3 pm today.

“There is fear now as we don’t know what will happen if we will be quarantined together in Trinidad or allowed to return to Tobago,” the passenger told Guardian Media.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Vilma Lewis-Cockburn said a crew member was taken for testing by the Ministry of Health, via special ambulance.

“As dictated by existing protocols, all persons are to remain on board until the results are in,” she said.

There is no word on how long the results will take.
