Three calypso community tents converged at the Kalypso Kolissiom last Thursday.

Dubbed Clash of the Community Tents, the Missioneers Calypso Tent from Tobago, Birds Calypso Tent and the Central Rainbow Stars Calypso Tent represented and their performances raked in a substantial amount of virtual money contributions.

The calypsonians displayed a diverse range of talent singing oldies and topical events specific to the community.

Fiery performances from the women set the pledges in motion from the get-go with Lady IB from Tobago, who performed Singing Sandra’s Sexy Employees (Dignity), Two-Face and Music. The representation of women continued with Lystra Nurse and Curlissa Charles-Mapp, who between them shared the stage with calypsos, Calypso Music, Love Up the Woman, Singing Francine’s Cool It Down, Beyond the Boundary, Red, White and Black and the Caribbean Biggest Circus.

The artiste Tick Sauce from the Missioneers Calypso Tent also provided tempo and humour with MC Damion Melville for the rendition of her sobriquet, Tick Sauce.

The performances raised the roof of the WACK 90.1 F.M studio. Station CEO Kenny Phillip said he was “pleasantly surprised” at the quality of calypsos sung as funds accumulated to more than 27 per cent.

Tall Blacks from Missioneers Calypso Tent represented the men well with a groovy soca rendition of No Money, No Love, so too was calypsonians Kelvin Deweth, OB, Mack (Bro Mac) Morris, and Carey “Kinte” Steven, who closed the show on a high note singing Firey and Try It.
