Camper killed in Rio forest during argument

A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Williamsville camper Radesh Kumar, who was shot in the face following an argument in Rio Claro on Friday.

Police said Kumar, 49, also known as Chook Chook, of Brothers Ground, Garth Road, Williamsville was sitting in a hammock in a forested area off Noel Trace, Legendre Road, Ecclesville Rio Claro when he got into an argument with a man around 10 pm on Friday.

A loud gunshot was fired and Kumar slumped in the hammock with a gunshot wound to the face. A day later, a report was made to the Homicide Region Three.

ASP Douglas and a party of officers went to the area where they saw a suspect walking out of a track.

The 43-year-old man of Rajpaul Trace, Legendre Road, Ecclesville Rio Claro was arrested.

The officers then journeyed four miles into a forested area where they saw Kumar lying on the ground with a bullet wound to the left side of his face.

The officers also seized 31 parts of apparent firearms including trap guns, barrels and butts and 27 apparent cartridges and a black cellphone.

Meanwhile, Kumar’s cousin Dhanesh Kumar posted on Facebook about the incident.

He wrote, “My cousin Boysie Kumar’s eldest son Radesh Kumar aka Chook Chook, was taken from us suddenly yesterday, allegedly shot in his head in a forested area in south. Our family is in shock. You’re gone too soon, but will not be forgotten. Sleep in peace family.”

An autopsy will be done on Monday at the Sangre Grande mortuary.
