Cancer patients told to isolate themselves

Chairman of the T&T Cancer Society (TTCS), Dr Asante Le Blanc, is urging cancer patients to isolate themselves, as far as humanly possible, to reduce their risk of COVID-19 infection.

And she says they need to ensure they eat healthy, nourishing foods, and follow hands washing and sanitising protocols closely, as well as get enough sleep and proper rest, in addition to other critical measures.

“They should be transported in a secure environment—preferably in a private vehicle that they know of that’s been sanitised,” she explains. “When they get in for treatment, of course in that clinical arena, there will be clinical precautions in place.”

She added: “Make sure the caregivers are healthy and they are honest about if they are feeling ill or any flu-like illness, because they will need to isolate themselves from that patient.”

Dr Asante advises that people ensure they have at least a 30-day supply of medication at home.
