The Chaguanas Borough Corporation stepped up its COVID-19 prevention drive on, Friday 24 July 2020.

Mayor of Chaguanas, Vandana Mohit, told Guardian Media that she was not taking any chances with the health of burgesses, and distributed reusable masks to market vendors.

“We have been receiving numerous complaints that vendors were not wearing masks while conducting business,” the Mayor explained.

Mayor Mohit  told vendors over the Public Address system that it was crucial that they (vendors) and all consumers follow the Ministry of Health’s guidelines, to ensure that no local COVID-19 cases arose.

“We have come here to remind you that you must wear masks, wash your hands and continuously sanitize.” 

The Chaguanas Mayor reported that they were dealing with several issues impacting the market, one of them being the extension of opening hours from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Mayor Mohit said starting this Saturday July 25th, market hours would be extended.
