The Chaguanas Market would reopen on Friday.
The assurance was given by Chaguanas Mayor Vandana Mohit who is personally overseeing the sanitisation process.
The market was closed on Monday afternoon. Speaking with Guardian Media on Wednesday Mohit said the entire facility would be thoroughly cleaned and wash bays would be installed for shoppers and market users to sanitise their hands before and after using the facility. The mayor said in an effort to maintain social distancing the corridors would be cleared of vendors and persons would be sent to an assigned space.
She assured that no vendor would be left out.
The council of the Chaguanas Borough Corporation took the decision on Monday to shut down the facility for three days that commenced on Tuesday in a bid to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Several other markets across the country have also implemented sanitisation measures.
