Coast Guard intercepts pirogue with Venezuelan nationals

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) reports that it has intercepted a pirogue carrying several Venezuelan nationals, and reportedly piloted by a Trinidadian crew.

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) reports that it has intercepted a pirogue carrying several Venezuelan nationals, and reportedly piloted by a Trinidadian crew.

An official statement notes that the intercept occurred on Monday 16 August 2021, at 10:50 pm, just “on the south coast of Trinidad in the vicinity of Erin Point”.

“Aboard the vessel, were a number of Venezuelan irregular migrants and a Trinidadian crew,” the TTCG statement noted.

The Coast Guard report also confirms the vessel and its occupants were escorted to the TTCG’s Cedros Base, to await processing by the Police Service and Immigration Division.
