Coast Guard officer Khadeem Alexis, who survived an accident in which his mother was killed, has been discharged from hospital.

Alexis, 30, of Fanny Village, Point Fortin, was driving the car in which his mother Karen Alexis, 58, a manager at the TTPost branch in Chaguanas, was a front-seat passenger.

He picked up his mother from work after completing his shift on Tuesday.

According to a police report, around 1.05 pm they were heading south along the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension when Alexis reportedly lost control of his Nissan Sylphy near the Golconda overpass.

The car slammed into a light pole and landed on its hood.

Alexis was helped out of the car by passing motorists.

However, his mother was pinned in the vehicle.

By the time members of the Fre Service arrived on the scene and got her out, she was dead.

Her husband Clive Alexis arrived on the scene about an hour later.

He broke down when he saw his wife’s body lying on the side of the road.

Relatives broke the tragic news Khadeem about his mother`s passing while he was at the hospital.

Khadeem, who suffered a broken arm, was resting at his home yesterday.

Karen Alexis was the mother of two and grandmother of one.

An autopsy said she died as a result of multiple injuries consistent with a vehicular accident.
