Cop escapes death as car burst into flames

A police officer escaped death when his vehicle he was driving suddenly caught on fire on Wednesday afternoon.

The officer is assigned to the Homicide Bureau Region 2 and lives in Arima.

According to a police report, around 2:35 pm the officer was driving his vehicle a black Nissan Navarra valued at $130,000 along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of the Macoya traffic lights when he observed smoke coming from the foot pedal in the vehicle.

The officer immediately pulled to the shoulder and exited the vehicle, which burst into flames a few minutes later.

Fire officers from the Tunapuna fire station responded and extinguished the blaze. However, the vehicle was destroyed.
