An attempt to rob a mini-mart in Wallerfield on Monday night has left two of the robbers dead and an off-duty police officer wounded, with a third robber on the run.

Guardian Media understands that at about 8:40 pm on Monday October 25, three armed men entered the mini-mart along Tractor Pool Road in Wallerfield and announced a robbery.

According to police reports, the suspects allegedly attacked one of the customers when an off-duty officer, as well as the business owner, pulled out their respective weapons on the suspects.

Police said there was subsequently an exchange of gunfire.

The off-duty police officer was shot in the right leg.

Two of the three suspects were found dead on the ground outside the mini-mart. They are yet to be identified.

The police were called in and officers from the Northern Division, led by Snr Sup Maharaj and the Homicide Bureau, responded.

Police said the third suspect remains at large.

Investigations are ongoing.
