Cops carry out surprise checks at PoS Ferry Terminal

Passengers heading to Tobago for the long Easter weekend got a surprise on Thursday when officers of the TTPS and the Port Authority Police carried out surprise checks at the Port-of-Spain Ferry Terminal.

Police said in a news release that during the exercise, a D’abadie man was arrested after the vehicle he was in control of, was found to be bearing false registration plates.

Officers of the Port-of-Spain Criminal Investigations Department, Stolen Vehicles Squad, and a party of officers from the Port Authority Police conducted the exercise.

During the search of motor vehicles at the ferry, officers discovered a white Nissan Tiida bearing false registration plates.

Further investigations revealed that the vehicle in question was involved in a robbery which occurred in El Socorro on November 10, 2017.

The driver of the vehicle, a 48-year-old man of Verna Marie Street, D’abadie was detained for questioning.

Cumuto man held with shotgun, ammo

One man was arrested for being in illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

On Thursday, officers of the Cumuto Police Station conducted an Operation Strike Back exercise.

During the exercise, the officers received information which led them to Sinverguenza Road, St Marie Emmanuel Road, Cumuto, where they observed a man seated under a tree with two dogs armed with a shotgun and four rounds of 12– gauge ammunition.

The 45-year-old man of St Marie Emmanuel Road, Cumuto, was arrested for the offence.

The gun and ammunition were seized and taken to the station for processing.
