Fire officers who responded to a vehicle on fire at Bangladesh in St Joseph on Monday night made a gruesome discovery upon extinguishing the flames.

When the smoke finally cleared, they found a body burnt beyond recognition in the car.

According to a police report, at about 10:30 pm on Monday 16 November 2020, a team of police officers went to Farm Road Extension, St Joseph, in the vicinity of the WASA pump.  The officers were responding to a report of a vehicle on fire.

Upon their arrival, the police officers reported seeing a vehicle engulfed in flames.  Fire officers, who also had reported to the scene, extinguished the blaze and whilst making checks, found charred human remains in the back seat of the vehicle.

The scene was visited by the District Medical Officer who made her pronouncements and gave instructions that the burnt body be removed to the Forensic Science Centre to await identification and an autopsy.

Investigations are ongoing.
