Seven men and one woman were arrested for participating in cockfighting at Soodeen Trace, Gasparillo yesterday.

The police service said based on information received police went to the rented premises, with high walls and gates, around 11.50 am yesterday.

On spotting the officers, the persons on the premises attempted to run but were all arrested by the police.

The suspects, including the owner of the premises, range in ages between 31 and 45 years. The suspects live in Chaguanas, Princes Town, Cunupia, Talparo, and Gasparillo.

Investigators found and seized numerous gamecocks, which were being prepared for fighting, as well as the Gayelle. The eight suspects were taken to the Gasparillo Police Station for further questioning.

And three men and one woman were arrested for larceny and receiving stolen items following a break-in and larceny at Nabbie Khan Street, Cane Farm, Tacarigua.

Police held three men ages 24, 35 and 44 for larceny, while the 55-year-old female was arrested for receiving stolen property.

Meanwhile, two men were arrested and a firearm and quantity of ammunition seized following an exercise in the San Juan district.

The police service said yesterday between 6 am and 8 am, an exercise was conducted in the San Juan Police where officers executed a search warrant for firearms and ammunition at the home of a 22-year-old man of, William Street, San Juan.

A 27-year-old man was also present at the residence at the time.

One AR 15 assault rifle fitted with a magazine and five rounds ammunition was found in the kitchen area.

Both men were arrested and taken to the Carenage Police Station.
